Large sums are in arrear in the matter of as

sessed taxes, the amount at present being about $59,000. Of

this the Crown Solicitor has been applied to to recover about

$7,000. If my request for an increased staff is acceued to,

I shall expect to reduce these arrears very considerably,

otherwise I do not at present see my way to prevent them

accumulating.

I attach a report from the 3rd. Clerk on the

subject.
